A beautiful sandblasted sign; we made this sign for Londontowne Marina. But really, what is an HDU sign? HDU is high-density urethane. In this case, we tier blasted this sign and then painted all of the details by hand. Sandblasting is just one of many methods we use for making dimensional signs with HDU. This substrate is perfect for creating any dimensional sign.
Shaping HDU signs is easy
With machines or by hand, we can shape and carve it with ease. When we made this rustic sign, the color choices are essential, as everything must work together to provide residents and guests with a cohesive viewing experience. In this case, we minimize the use of gold leaf and opt for darker earthier tones and colors. Some cross-hatching and minor details give prominence to the heron in the foreground. Please take a moment to review our site. We post many great photos of our custom gold leaf signs and sandblasted signs.
A Rustic Sandblasted Sign will always look good. So what is an HDU sign used for?
Often our customers ask us to create signs with a “classic” or “rustic” appearance. They desire a sign that looks older or more traditional. Over the years, we’ve noticed that this style of signage ages quite well. Even after years of use, they tend to still look very appropriate in most rural settings. So typically, we install rustic signs at marinas, entrances of subdivisions, and farms too.
