Brick wall murals bring a plain exterior to life. We painted these architectural murals for Parts and Labor, a restaurant in Baltimore City. Designs & Signs, based in Edgewater, Maryland, paints commercial murals across the region.
How we paint brick wall murals
First, we place a pounce pattern on the wall and check the measurements to ensure accurate placement and level. Next, we rub a porous bag of charcoal powder over the pattern. The powder passes through the holes, so we can paint the outline of our design directly on the building. It is not unlike a coloring book. We see the black lines on the wall and fill them in as needed. Of course, it is a bit more complicated than a coloring book, but you get the idea.
Rollers and brushwork
The approach becomes more complex when multiple colors and overlaps are involved. We use rollers to paint large portions of any brick wall mural, but fine details and edges require skilled brushwork. Designs & Signs has painted many commercial murals in Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington, DC. In addition, we have traveled to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to paint murals.
